The base Search feature-set in SharePoint 2007 is significantly improved. For one thing, both WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 now use the same underlying search engine, and the user search experience in the core platform is faster, and more customizable. If you combine the improvements in the core search engine with proper deployment of new features like content types, you can expose to your users the information they need to find and dramatically reduce the amount of time wasted in fruitless searches.
If you license the MOSS 2007 product, you can really take enterprise search to the next level. You can light up search for documents on file shares (outside of SharePoint), external Internet web sites, and line of business data through the business data catalog. And if you combine search with the ability of users to maintain their personal profiles, the new, integrated "people search" functionality will really round out your corporate information store.
